Zhuangzi glossary

In 1.01 and 1.02, 扶搖 fúyáo is the wind that bears up Breeze. It is described in 1:02 as 羊角, a ram's horn, which suggests a spiral; hence "whirlwind." In CTP 11.04, the phrase 扶搖之枝, "whirlwind's branches," makes it sound like a tree. Watson suggests it may be an error here for 扶桑 fúsāng, a "tree of life" in the Eastern sea described in the 山海經 shān hǎi jīng, "Classic of Mountains and Seas."
