Zengzi

參, Confucius disciple noted for his filial piety in chapters 9-11, along with 魚.

Notes to 26.01 say his parents 憎 hated and beat him. Still, he cried when he visited their graves. But this story is not attested elsewhere that I know of in the extensive literature on him.

In 27.03, Confucius says that, though he wasn't attached to money, he was stili attached to his parents.
