dust

塵埃 chén āi are the blowing bits of dust in 1:01. 塵垢 chén gòu means dust and dirt, but evidently it has a strong metaphorical foundation. It is almost always bad. It appears in 1:05 as the detritus of the sage out of which Yao could be created; in 2:12 and 6:06 as that outside of which the sage wanders; in 5:02 as the dust which obscures the bright mirror; and as what is to be broken through in 13:03 and 13:10
