According to Cheng Xuanying, "Count Common's name was Harmony. He was the grandson of a Zhou dynasty king who embraced the way and the force and held in common food and responsibilities. During the troubles of King Li, when the royal heir was executed, the feudal lords knew of Count Common's worth and asked him to assume the throne. Common didn't listen, but his rejection didn't take so he ended up king. For fourteen years there was a great drought, so that homes and buildings caught fire. The soothsayer said, 'King Li is an angry spirit. So depose Count Common and instate King Li's son, King Xuan. So Count Common retired and returned to his ancestral village. He wasn't happy at being appointed or frustrated at being fired, but rocked and rolled on the mountain hilltops.
